Warm light and cold light. Uses and recommendations

Warm light, cold light

In World Light Estudio we work conscientiously in all our lighting projects. Our lighting designs not only take into account the aesthetics and functionality of light but we also take into account the moods or environments that should be generated in each room. As if that were not enough, we also advise on the possibility of installing lighting control systems that can generate different scenes and can regulate the light depending on the usefulness of the room or the mood we want to generate at different times of the day.

Today we will try to clarify the differences between warm and cold light and how they are usually used depending on the room, place or use to be given to the space. The main difference between warm and cold light is the color temperature, which will define the use of each one. Depending on the room we will recommend the use of warm light or cold light. The color temperature values are measured in Kelvin degrees, ranging from about 1700 K (very warm) to 6500 K (very cold).

The most common warm light is around 2700K and the most common cold light is in the range between 5000 and 6500K. Cold light emits more luminosity than warm light and is projected in the blue range. Curiously, sunlight is found in the same range, which is why many interior spaces try to imitate it, seeking the benefits that this type of light has on mood. The feeling of alertness and productivity are the effects we get in people who work with this light.

Neutral white is right in the middle of the space between the other two. On the kelvin scale, that places it around 4000 K

Blue hues reduce melatonin levels in the body. This is the hormone that is related to sleep. Therefore, when this type of light predominates in a room, people in the room tend to feel more awake. Screens emit blue light and it is therefore recommended not to expose yourself to mobile screens and other devices before going to sleep.

Typical light type for kitchens

Most kitchens have cold light. The installation of cool white LEDs provides a brighter and clearer light and allows us to better visualize the food we are preparing.

Type of light in the workspace

Cool lights make them more stimulating and increase alertness and concentration. For this reason, they are often used in the workplace, with the aim of increasing work productivity levels.

Types of light for a bedroom or space designed for relaxation and rest.

Warm light is recommended when you want to create a relaxed atmosphere. Spaces where they tend to predominate are, for example, bedrooms. Since this type of lighting is associated with relaxation, illuminating a bedroom in this way, especially before going to sleep, can help to improve the quality of sleep.

Living rooms are also spaces where it is used, so that the decoration acquires a touch of intimacy in a quiet environment.
