The Corner: Minimal Studio and Worldlight
The Corner: A Project by Minimal Studio and Worldlight. At Worldlight, lighting is the key to transforming spaces into meaningful experiences. One of our collaborations with Minimal Studio, The Corner, perfectly reflects this philosophy.
In this blog, we share the details, the lighting approach, the challenges, and how we integrated our vision to maximize comfort, aesthetics, and functionality.
¿What is The Corner?
It is a vertical residence with a triangular geometry located in the Port of Alcúdia, Mallorca. Built on an extremely small plot of only 30 square meters, its design challenges convention by making use of every angle and turning it into a unique and unconventional home.
The style combines contemporary minimalism, concrete and expanded metal, large windows, and a structure that connects interior and exterior. Every area is designed to enhance natural light and highlight the sea views. The interior features 4 meter high ceilings in the living room, panoramic windows, concrete elements, and reflective finishes that amplify brightness and a sense of spaciousness.
Custom lighting by Worldlight
In this project, we took on the complete lighting design with the goal of highlighting the architecture and enhancing the minimalist aesthetic while maintaining functionality within the limited space.
-
Architectural integration
We worked closely with Minimal Studio from the earliest stages of the project. This included analyzing the building’s orientation, natural light entry points, and the strategic locations where artificial light would play a crucial role.
-
Defined atmospheres
– Living area: overhead and recessed lighting to emphasize the tall ceilings and create a play of volumes and verticality.
– Bedrooms: indirect lighting and dimmable systems to create warm and relaxing environments.
– Façade and exteriors: lighting solutions that highlight the texture of expanded metal and concrete through controlled contrasts of light and shadow, adding depth and material richness.
-
Efficiency and technology
We used high efficiency luminaires and LED strips, dimmable systems, color temperature control, and lighting solutions that balance design with technical performance. Visual integration was also a priority to keep the lighting discreet and aligned with the architectural language.
-
Visual comfort and experience
We focused on avoiding glare, controlling reflections, and ensuring that the lighting enhanced the sea views without creating uncomfortable contrasts. Materials such as glass and reflective surfaces were used strategically to support this balance.
Challenges and solutions
- Triangular geometry: efficient use of space, use of angled walls to distribute the light effectively, and elimination of dark areas.
- Maximizing natural light: large windows, optimal orientation, and bright surfaces combined with high quality artificial lighting for times of low sunlight.
- Aesthetic consistency: lighting points that remain discreet and clean, staying true to the minimalist approach.
Awards and recognition
The Corner has received several awards that acknowledge its architectural innovation, interior design, and lighting quality. Among the most notable:
