World Light Estudio illuminates RIM House commissioned by Biel Rechach, director and founder of RM Arquitectura and Vero Montijano, interior designer and founder of Rimirim Design. Together they make a perfect team and tell us the key points of this spectacular project.
Dimensions and location of RIM House
It is a detached single-family house of 300 m2 on a plot of 1050 m2 and located in the north of Mallorca, in an exceptional location.
The premise of the project was to integrate an avant-garde house adapted to the environment within the forest. A house open to the outside for the summer months with large outdoor living areas and swimming pool; and at the same time, a secluded house for the winter months.
RIM House distribution
The distribution of the house is characterized by the aligned layout of the volumes that make it up.
The first volume is a cube completely lined with sandstone that serves to separate the access area from the outdoor terrace. This volume houses the facilities area, pool bath and outdoor kitchen.
The transition zone between the first and second volume has been solved by means of a free-standing marés wall on which rests a reed pergola and a swimming pool facing it. The marés wall squares off the entire outdoor area, creating a covered outdoor space integrated into the house as a whole.
The second volume houses the main rooms of the house. This volume has been finished with an earth-colored mortar favoring its integration into the environment. It is subdivided into two bodies of sloping roof connected by a body of flat glazed roof.
The first body that connects to the pool deck and the pergola, houses the kitchen/dining room and the living room, both separated by a central fireplace that divides both rooms, visually connected thanks to the continuity of the wooden beamed ceiling.
The second body houses the night area consisting of four rooms and three bathrooms, in which the same structure of the day area has been maintained. Only the floor finish differentiates the two bodies, always natural materials, wood in the night area and stone in the day area. The interior design team furnished the house with the premise of adapting to the environment, using wood for the furniture and lighting and linen for the textiles.
The high-ceilinged spaces are furnished with straight and simple furniture, but studied taking into account the proportions of the rooms. The interior areas are open and very spacious, which gives a feeling of freshness. To offset this feeling and make every corner of the house more pleasant and cozy, we chose to use curtains in natural fabrics such as linen. In addition, the use of decorative lamps was chosen to give warmth to each room and create a homely and familiar home.
Large pieces of furniture have been placed in each area of the house. As can be seen, in the kitchen-dining room, special attention is given to the large square table, because the space contemplated it. And in the living room, we have opted for the use of two pieces of sofa in linen fabric, with a simple TV cabinet and a set of wooden and iron tables in the center.
The bedrooms and bathrooms follow the same tone. Few pieces to not load the space and play of natural materials such as stone and wood. As for the color in the interior, it has also opted for neutral tones. Both the color of the walls and the tones of the wood and fabrics are completely natural, without dyes or treatments.
Lighting at RIM House
The lighting for this architectural project was also a challenge, it had to be able to play to create those natural environments, extolling shapes and volumes, giving prominence to the key pieces and giving a sense of warmth, comfort and familiarity to the house.
